University-Level Responsibilities: The Greatest Learning Experience?

Responsibility for keeping up with course material and course administration is yours.  You must also accept responsibility for your actions.  Sounds like life, huh?

What does this mean for you?

  • Make sure you are enrolled in the course, and if you drop, make sure your drop is recorded by the Registrar.

  • Read the syllabus to be informed about course requirements and deadlines.  Use it as your primary source for course information.

  • Deadlines for assignments will be strictly enforced.  No makeups or unadvertised extra credit will be available.  Sorry, no exceptions - with over 200 students, exceptions quickly get unmanageable.

  • Honesty.  It is my policy to give everyone the benefit of the doubt.  To that end, I assume honesty when giving homework, exams, etc.  The work you do should always be your own, even if you consult with others.  I should never see identical, or nearly identical, answers to anything, even if you work in a group.  I do expect you to abide by an honor code.  I will not look over your shoulder to enforce it, but if I find it has been violated I will take the most extreme measures at my disposal.     Student input is expected in this process - if you see cheating occur, I expect you to inform me (watch the movie School Ties to reinforce the degree to which student involvement in the honor code is an admirable achievement!).  Academic integrity is the hallmark of a University education, and all are expected to adhere to it.
