Blowback

One of the many casualties of the early pandemic was the cancellation of the culminating exhibitions for the Masters in Art in Studio Art for the graduating classes of 2020 and 2021. The M.A. graduate exhibition is typically held in the University Library Gallery at the end of the spring semester, organized by a guest curator, and celebrated as the final accomplishment of the program. Instead, for these select students, we had to pivot and their graduate school experience ended with virtual studio visits and on-line exhibitions.

The effects of that first spring continue to reverberate. Yet we are now able to look forward even as we look back. Blowback celebrates five former Sacramento State graduate students and their new work. The presentation of this work speaks to the resilience of these artists and their unflinching commitment to creating an artistic practice.
