Art With Friends: A Pen Pal Collaboration
About the exhibition:
Contemporary artists have embraced the postcard – a small, paper object sent through the mail carrying a brief, personal message to its recipient. Postcards continue to remain an interpersonal way of communicating hope, thoughts and emotions.
This exhibition—a collaboration between two art classrooms—showcases the artwork postcards of 30 children and 23 Sac State undergraduate students who shared visual messages with one another, even though they had never met.
The students at the Ralph Richardson Center, a special education environment for diverse learners in the San Juan Unified School District, created postcards for Sac State students enrolled in the Art Education course Art for Exceptional Children. Once Sac State students received their postcards, they created a companion postcard that shares elements of design that was identified in their Pen Pal's postcard.
