Campus Activities Response Team (CART)

The Campus Activities Response Team (CART) was established at Sacramento State University in 2023. It is administered through the Division of Student Affairs, Dean of Students Office.

About CART

CART is a team of managers, faculty, staff, and administrators from multiple departments dedicated to campus compliance and working to make the campus safer within the community during campus events and activities. CART oversees general management, provides de-escalation and student support, conflict resolution, and communicates for emergency responses as needed.

During planned (registered) and unplanned activities, CART works collectively to:

  • Support First Amendment/Freedom of Expression activities within the framework of university policies.
  • CART strives to minimize disruption of campus operations and academic settings for planned or unplanned activities.
  • Maintain a supportive presence following CSU and CSUS Time, Place and Manner (TPM) guidelines.
  • Protect campus property.

Campus Addendum

CART undergoes regular training on de-escalation, Free Speech, TPM, and conflict resolution. CART is a critical component to the Sac State community, providing campus climate legislative support and also an excellent way to bond with students, faculty, and staff during activities including (but not limited to):

  • Rallies
  • Protests
  • Demonstrations
  • Marches
  • Unplanned events
