ChatGPT
Supporting accessibility and innovation, the CSU has launched a systemwide license for OpenAI's ChatGPT-4o Edu plan, an education-focused version that offers advanced tools, security, and controls to enhance teaching, learning, and productivity across campus through the responsible use of AI.
ChatGPT-4o Edu Features
While completely optional, Sacramento State's ChatGPT-4o Edu license provides eligible faculty, staff, and students free access to a more robust ChatGPT experience over Open AI's current free version:
- Unlimited message limits and faster response time
- Use on iOS, Android, Windows, and MacOS
- Advanced capabilities like data analytics, web browsing + document summarization
- Web search allows users to access and retrieve current information from the internet to enhance queries and research
- Create custom GPT's that can be shared within the campus workspace and support research and learning needs
- Support for over 50 languages
- Security and administrative controls
(conversations/workspace data are never monitored or used to train ChatGPT models)

How to Join Sac State ChatGPT Workspace
*Licensing is currently not available for alumni, auxiliary, College of Continuing Education (CCE) faculty and staff, emeritus faculty, and other campus community members and partners.
Existing (Personal) ChatGPT Account
Some of you may already have a ChatGPT account - and there are two scenarios:
- You have a current ChatGPT account (free or paid subscription) that you set up with a personal (non Sac State email address) and do not prefer to join the Sac State ChatGPT-4o Edu Workspace. The optional Sac State ChatGPT Workspace will still be available to you now or in the future
- You have a current ChatGPT account (free or subscription) but used a Sac State email address to set it up
Here's what you'll need to do
OpenAI policy only allows one account per email address, which means when the Sac State ChatGPT-4o Edu Workspace launches on April 14, 2025 your current account will be automatically deactivated and your data/content lost - unless you choose from the following options. Note: If you already paid for a month, you will be partially refunded by Open AI for that month.
- Transfer Existing Chat History and GPTs to New Sac State Workspace
Merge your existing chat history and settings into the new Sac State ChatGPT-4o Edu workspace.
- Export/Delete Existing Chat History + Create New Account
Removes your current workspace but allows you to more easily create a new personal (free or paid subscription) account if preferred over the Sac StateChatGPT-4o Edu workspace. Use a personal (not Sac State) email to create your new account.
(Have custom GPTs? Document and export all relevant data since they won't be transferred during the migration)
Using AI Responsibly
