Planetary Magnetic Fields: Jupiter

  • The tilt of Jupiter's magnetic axis, rlative to its, rotation axis, is about 10 degrees.  The magnetic features of Jupiter, therefore, precess, or wobble, relative to the planet's rotation axis and the plane in which the moon's orbit.  This is well illustrated by the following video clip, which zooms out from Jupiter, to the Io plasma torus, and out beyond the magnetosphere.  Take a look:
