Planetary
Magnetic Fields: Jupiter
Additionally
- The plasma in the Jovian
magnetosphere derives not only from the Solar wind, but also from sulfur dioxide, hydrogen
sulfide and other gases characteristic of the moon Io. We will discuss Io later in
the semester to see why this is so.
- Because Io is a source of
plasma, and because Io orbits Jupiter, a plasma torus exists around Jupiter.
