Schedule: Accessing the Readings
From this unit onward, all readings in this schedule must be completed by the day under which they are listed. This requirement is assessed via TRAs, homework and End-of-Unit Challenges throughout the semester.
CAUTION: I reserve the right to make revisions to on-line materials prior to their discussion in class at the relevant point in the semester. Therefore WAIT until that time to print out scenarios and reading guides.
Accessing the Readings
- PAGE NUMBERS: The schedule identifies readings by listing the page numbers
use to sequence the materials in Course Reader (RDR), which are printed at the bottom each page with the Reader held vertically.
(For those using the anthologies or other books from which the readings are drawn instead of the reader, the schedule also provides the abbreviation for the original sources, which are also provided in the left hand column on each page of the schedule; the page numbers of original sources are also sometimes listed.)
IMPORTANT: when quoting or even just citing a source from the Reader in class assignments, you should provide page numbers of the book or anthology from which the readings are drawn, which are printed vertically along the binding of outer edge of the Reader when held horizontally. Do **NOT** cite the Reader pages.
- ONLINE READINGS: there are several types of online readings assigned for the course:
(a) "Essential Elements of Culture" is an essay embedded in this course content site. Clicking a link to the essay that you find in the schedule will take you directly to the right page.
(b) Readings for "Tools of the Mind" & "The Deepening Page" are posted in SacCT. You must log in to the course SacCT page to access these.
(c) If you click on a term listed in the schedule that is linked to Encyclopedia Britanicca on-line, you will be directed to the correct article or section of an article in EB.
WARNING: make sure that you use the links below to access EB; going through the library's database page may lead to different material, which will likely confuse you when preparing for assignments.
