Northern California Waterways

The SIRIUS I project initially focused on the American River as it flows through the Sacramento State campus. With the expansion to the Los Rios Community College system, additional waterways will be studied in addition to the American River in the SIRIUS II Project.

Why study waterways?

American River (Sacramento State)

Impaired Status

Flowing through the Sacramento State campus, the American River is an urban, agricultural, rural, riparian habitat that is listed as ‘Impaired’ by the Federal Clean Water Act of 1972. This is providing the SIRIUS project with an opportunity to create a culture of stewardship and environmental activism around this important natural resource.
