Expository Reading & Writing Curriculum (ERWC)
Overview
The Expository Reading and Writing Curriculum (ERWC) is a full-year college preparatory English course for high school seniors. This innovative curriculum—born at the CSU—has changed how English teachers prepare high school students for college. Using rhetorical inquiry to encourage critical thinking, students learn strategies that help them thrive in college. The ERWC is aligned with the California English-Language Arts Content Standards and addresses critical reading and writing problems identified by the CSU English Placement Test Committee. It is designed for an English language arts course in grade 12, but curricula are also available for grades 7 to 11.
