About Sac State College Corps (SSCC)

The Sacramento State College Corps program offers full-time undergraduate students the opportunity to pursue career development and training opportunities that help build new skills, explore potential career paths, and get paid while working in the community to further initiatives and efforts. As part of a broader initiative by California Volunteers, the program provides students with opportunities to:

  • Contribute to non-profit initiatives and efforts via our community partners.
  • Gain experience that can set your resume above the rest as you complete your education and prepare for your future career path.
  • Work with local agencies and non-profits to alleviate issues within the community.

As a condition of service, Fellows must volunteer 450 hours over the academic year – about 12-15 hours each week, to receive the full $10,000 (subject to the review of financial aid eligibility).

For Community Partner Organizations

A key element of the Sacramento State College Corps program is YOU: local community-based organizations and government agencies who are interested in hosting members throughout the academic year.

Funded by California Volunteers, Office of the Governor, the California College Corps initiative has three goals:

  • engage college students in meaningful service to build leadership and civic responsibility;
  • promote academic success and economic well-being;
  • support the work of community-based organizations within targeted program focus areas.

Eligibility and Criteria

Eligible community partners for the Sacramento State College Corps program must be a nonprofit organization or government agency able to:

  • Supervise at least three to five Fellows, providing a minimum of 12-15 service hours each week in a targeted program focus area.
  • Participate in required training (i.e. in-person orientation, timesheet training, etc.). Please expect to attend the mandatory community partner orientation in August 2025 (TBD) which will be five hours in length. All supervisors are required to attend.
  • Support Fellows with data collection regarding community outputs. (Required by California Volunteers)
  • Comply with AmeriCorps grant requirements.

College Corps Fellows are required to complete a total of 450 hours of service during the 10-month program. Because some Fellows may choose to enroll in the program-specific course (considered indirect or training hours), complete required trainings and attend mandatory events, we estimate that Fellows will need to complete 360 service hours with their host site. This translates to 12-15 hours per week with your organization. Service with your organization can be a mix of direct and indirect service but should be predominately direct service.

Direct service; refers to activities that directly benefit individuals, groups, or communities and can include actions such as: tutoring, mentoring, outreach, harvesting and distributing meals, and more.

  • At least 300 hours (80%) of the Fellows’ time must be spent on direct service.

Indirect service refers to activities that indirectly benefit individuals, groups, or communities and can include research, material preparation, or other activities that support the organization’s efforts.

  • At least 60 hours (20%) of the Fellows’ time may be spent on indirect service.

Please fill out an interest from below to receive notification when the Community Host Partner application opens on March 21, 2025.
