Returning After Suspension
If you violate the Student Code of Conduct, you may be subject to a suspension or expulsion.
If you have been suspended the date of your suspension is normally listed in holds of your student center. Once the period of suspension is complete, you may follow the process to return through the Returning Students website.
Questions about your disciplinary suspension should be directed the Office of Student Conduct. Questions about financial obligations should be directed to the Bursar's Office. If you are withdrawn and have student loans, financial aid, or scholarships, you should be in touch with the Financial Aid and Scholarship Office.
Note: If you have been suspended from Sac State, you are no longer an active student, are not eligible for the benefits afforded to active Sac State students. Suspension is defined as a temporary separation of the Student from active Student status or Student status.
- A Student who is suspended for less than one academic year shall be placed on inactive Student (or equivalent) status (subject to individual Campus policies) and remains eligible to re-enroll at the University (subject to individual Campus enrollment policies) once the suspension has been served. Conditions for re-enrollment may be specified.
- A Student who is suspended for one academic year or more shall be separated from Student status but remains eligible to reapply to the University (subject to individual Campus application polices) once the suspension has been served. Conditions for readmission may be specified.
- Suspension of one academic year or more, withdrawals in lieu of suspension, and withdrawals with pending misconduct investigations or disciplinary proceedings shall be entered on the Student's transcript permanently without exception; this requirement shall not be waived in connection with a resolution agreement.
- Expulsion is a permanent separation of the Student from Student status from the California State University system. Expulsion, withdrawal in lieu of expulsion, and withdrawal with pending misconduct investigation or disciplinary proceeding shall be entered on the Student's transcript permanently, without exception; this requirement shall not be waived in connection with a resolution agreement.
Thing to Think About When Returning
Here are a few tips that may be helpful for a university student returning to campus after serving a disciplinary suspension:
- Reflect on the reasons for the suspension: Take the time to reflect on what led to the disciplinary action and what steps can be taken to avoid similar situations in the future.
- Meet with an academic advisor: Schedule a meeting with an academic advisor to discuss your plans for the upcoming semester and to make sure you are on track to meet your academic goals.
- Be proactive in building positive relationships: Reach out to professors, classmates, and campus resources to build positive relationships.
- Get involved on campus: Look for opportunities to get involved on campus, such as joining clubs or organizations that align with your interests.
- Follow the rules: Make sure you understand and follow the rules and regulations of the university, and be aware of any additional restrictions that may have been placed on you as a result of the disciplinary action.
- Seek support when needed: If you find yourself struggling, don't hesitate to reach out for support. Many universities have resources such as counseling and academic support services that can help you navigate the challenges of returning to campus.
- Take responsibility for your actions and learn from the experience, it will make you a better person and student.
- Be patient with yourself, it can be challenging to return to campus after a disciplinary suspension and it may take time to regain the trust of classmates and professors.
