Given the chronic lack of investment in AAPI communities for decades, in the face of rising anti-AAPI hate, AAPI community groups led the advocacy charge to get the API Equity Budget passed - a $166.5 million dollar investment in the AAPI community. Learn how the API Equity Budget was passed, and what is needed to get API Equity Budget 2.0 on the books. In this session, participants will learn more about what it took to advocate for the API Equity budget and how community groups can get involved in advocating for API Equity Budget 2.0, including how to engage elected officials and to advocate to benefit our communities.
2:25-3:15 p.m.    Strategy Session: Data-informed strategy and Advocacy: Putting Data into Practice (AAPI Data)

In the absence of detailed data, AANHPI communities have been unrecognized and deprioritized—often with stereotypes and assumptions filling in the gaps. Accurate and timely data, when combined with meaningful and memorable narratives, can make a big difference in our ability to advocate and serve our communities. In this session, participants will learn more about AAPI Data’s Data-Narrative-Action (DNA) Framework and try their hand at using data to bust myths and generate actionable insights that uplift community expertise. Participants are encouraged to bring their laptops and check out the Community Counts and Community Data Explorer in advance!

"How do we advocate and work together for greater impact?” Through grassroots organizing, cultivating partnerships, and hosting community forums and legislative advocacy days, this session will take a deep-dive into a toolkit for mobilization and empowerment.  In this session, panelists will share best practices for future action to build and strengthen our communities.
