Our Vision and Purpose

Vision

To provide students of the Native American College (NAC) with the necessary academic, professional, tribally centered, community-focused, culturally based skills to become successful leaders.

Purpose

The Native American College provides a Tribal Nation/Native Community/Native American Studies based cohort educational experience for all students. The experience is designed to equip students with the necessary academic, professional, tribal government-centered, community-focused, culturally based knowledge and skills to become successful leaders within all of our communities. The Native American College will offer support services to help students have a successful university experience.

Student Experience

  • Cohorts for both first-year students and transfer students.
  • Minor in Native American Studies, including Tribal Leadership courses.
  • Road map for General Education (GE) requirements to keep the cohort together as much as possible.
  • Students can major in any area they are accepted into by the Department.
  • Closely mentored by Sacramento State faculty
  • Centralized physical space for the Co-Curricular Native American College, which houses resource personnel for the students such as an Outreach/Recruiter, Advisor, Counselor, Administrative Support Assistant, Tutors, Dean, etc.
  • Centralized physical space for students to utilize computers, classroom, and meeting space.
  • Native American leadership events/speakers/trainings.
  • Community-based learnings and internships.
  • Housing that reflects the cohort model.
