Junior Bridge Program
Junior Bridge Program (JBP)is part of the Student Academic Success and Educational Equity Programs (SASEEP) The program will begin on June 23 to July 31, 2025. At the end of Junior Bridge, a celebration will be held to commemorate students' successful completion of the program.
Junior Bridge is a free intensive 6-week summer academic program designed to promote a timely graduation for current Sacramento State students. This program is optional for Sacramento State students who come from underrepresented backgrounds and serves approximately 30 students.
Graduation Writing Assessment (GWAR)
Participants are placed in academic courses based on their Writing Placement for Juniors (WPJ) scores. Students who score 3 - Competent Writer on the WPJ allows you to enroll concurrently in ENG 109X (tutoring) and ETHN 100 (writing intensive). Students who score a 4 - Strong Writer or 5 - Exceptional Writeron the WPJ are eligible to take the ETHN 100 Courses.

Program Benefits
The Junior Bridge Program has many potential benefits which include the following:

- The program helps students to get ahead to make progress on their degree completion.
- Build on the student’s writing skills and earn Upper Division general education credit.
- Complete writing-intensive requirement prior to enrollment in the Fall if students have secured a passing score on the WPJ examination and are accepted to the program.
Program Goals
- Goal 1: The Junior Bridge Program will promote timely graduation by enrolling students in the appropriate course(s) based on their WPJ scores.
- Goal 2: The Junior Bridge Program will facilitate students’ commitment and connection to Sacramento State through meaningful interactions with students, instructors, and staff.

Virtual Program
This year’s program is a fully online program and courses are offered in a synchronous format. Students will need access to the internet and a computer to do their assignments and attend classes which will be offered through Canvas.
Program Costs
Junior Bridge is FREE! However, students must be enrolled in at least 12 units by the 4th week of the Fall 2025 semester for courses to post. Classes taken during Junior Bridge will be added to each participating student's Fall 2025 fall schedule by the department, and no action is required by the student. If the student is enrolled in less than 12 units in the fall, they will be responsible for paying those extra fees.

Junior Bridge Program is a free six-week intensive summer academic program designed to assist continuing Sacramento State junior students complete their Writing Intensive requirements.
The program is optional for Sacramento State students. The program offers Ethnic Studies 100 (Writing Intensive) to help students get ahead in their academics and careers through supportive opportunities such as tutoring.
Sacramento State continuing students from underrepresented minority backgrounds can apply to Junior Bridge. Applicants must be California residents or AB 540.
Students may enroll in ETHN 100 depending on their WPJ portfolio scores. You must have a score between 3-5. Once students pass the course, they will meet the GE area D upper-division units and the Writing Intensive graduation requirements.
Submit the WPJ Portfolio (Writing Placement for Juniors). The first submission deadline is March 8, 2025. The second submission deadline is May 10, 2025. Priority will be given to students who meet the first submission deadline.
The WPJ (Writing Placement for Juniors) is a writing proficiency portfolio that helps determine your placement into the Sacramento State writing-intensive classes.
To sign up for the WPJ Portfolio email gwar@csus.edu with your name and student ID number. The first submission is March 8, 2025 and your scores will be available April 12, 2025. The last submission period for Spring 2025 will be May 10, 2025 and your scores will be available on June 7, 2025. WPJ scores of an 80 or above (scores 4-5 portfolio) you would be eligible to take a writing-intensive course. WPJ score of 70 (score of a 3 on the portfolio) allows you to enroll concurrently in ENG 109X and a writing-intensive course. Scores of 60 or below (score 2 or 1) must enroll in only ENG 109W/M.

Junior Bridge is FREE! However, you must be enrolled in at least 12 units in the Fall 2025 semester by the 4th week of the semester. Classes taken during Summer Bridge will be added to your fall schedule by the department and no action is required by the student. If you are enrolled in less than 12 units in the fall, then you are responsible for paying those additional fees.
The space is limited; this program is available to qualified students on a first come first serve basis.
Apply early. Seats will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Priority will be given to students who submit their portfolio before the first portfolio submission deadline of March 8th. Complete the application no later than April 30, and you will receive a notification of your acceptance by June.
Junior Bridge will be held online via Canvas. We do not provide on-campus accommodations for students during the six-week program.
Classes taken during Junior Bridge will be added to your Fall 2025 schedule by the department and no action is required by the student. Your grades will be available when all Fall 2025 grades are released in early January 2026. Classes cannot be posted or credited if students withdraw for the Fall 2025 semester.
Participants must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 units in the Fall 2025 semester to avoid paying additional fees. If a student withdraws for the Fall 2025 semester classes cannot be posted or credited.

The Junior Bridge course will not account towards the 6 units for Summer School because the course is credited in the Fall semester (participants must be enrolled in 12 units in Fall 2025).
