Legacy Black Women's Professional Collaborative
About Legacy
Our community of practice brings together our collective wisdom and strength to build a more inclusive and supportive environment where everyone can thrive. We achieve this through activities that encourage personal growth, opportunities for career development, and fementoring (female mentoring) students to help them succeed. Join us as we work together to be architects of our own legacy of success here at Sac State.
How We Began
As Black women professionals in higher education, we recognized and acknowledged that challenges such as the lack of critical mass, racism, isolation, unreasonable expectations, as well as both racial and gender-based discriminatory experiences inhibit pathways to success among staff and faculty (Hughes & Howard-Hamilton, 2003). In the face of these obstacles, we sought to create a community of practice that leverages the strength, femtorship (female mentorship), and wisdom of Black women professionals at Sac State to successfully navigate, network, and elevate within higher education (quoted from our CoP application).
Legacy Learning Pathways
Legacy Learning Pathways (LLP) provides an opportunity for professional development by providing knowledge, resourses, and networking. It generally takes approximately 3 months to complete, but individuals can work at their own pacel There are two different pathways - Entry & Mid-Career and Senior & Executive Career).
