Bias Incident Reporting Process
When a bias incident is reported through our online system, the Director of Belonging Education and Support (BES) reviews it to determine if it meets the definition of bias. If it does and a crime is reported, the case will be shared with University Police. If no crime is involved, the BES Director will reach out to the concerned individual within 3-4 business days to offer support and guidance. Not all incidents may fall under BES’s purview, but we are committed to supporting individuals by referring cases to the appropriate campus partners, such as the Office for Equal Opportunity, Facilities Management, or Campus Police. Since no two incidents are the same, each case is handled with care and reviewed on an individual basis to provide tailored recommendations after an initial information-gathering meeting. The enhanced coordination between our campus support offices ensures that every report receives a timely, streamlined response.
