Sacramento State President Luke Wood inked an agreement on Thursday empowering the University and other educational institutions to share data to help create pathways for high school students to enter college and earn their degrees.

The data-sharing partnership, commemorated in a formal signing ceremony, includes Sac State, the Sacramento K-16 Collaborative, the Los Rios Community College District and the Elk Grove Unified School District.

“This is more than just a commitment on paper. It is a promise that we will work to ensure that every single student has access to higher education.” -- Sac State President Luke Wood

Student data can help educators identify individuals who are struggling in certain areas and offer targeted resources to help them succeed, Wood said.

“This is more than just a commitment on paper,” he said of the groundbreaking initiative. “It is a promise that we will work to ensure that every single student has access to higher education.”

The initiative is designed to create a seamless educational pipeline that supports student success, equity and workforce readiness, said David Gordon, Sacramento County Superintendent of Schools and chair of the K-16 Collaborative.

It will ensure that students “truly are college ready” when they graduate high school, “regardless of their background, ZIP code, or income level,” Gordon said. “It’s an ongoing commitment to putting students first.”
