Fee Waiver Program FAQs

Who is Eligible?

Most F-1 visa international students who are enrolled in a Sacramento State degree program for the next academic term (fall and spring) are eligible to apply. Government sponsored international students, exchange students, and non-degree students are not eligible to apply.

How do I apply?

Sign in and create a general application here. Then, search for "International Student Fee Waiver Program" under "Our Opportunities".

How many fee waivers are there and how are the fee waivers awarded?

The number of fee waivers available varies each year. Fee waivers are awarded by a committee of Sac State faculty and staff on a competitive basis.

What is the amount of the fee waiver?

Fee waivers are awarded in one-unit increments. Each one-unit international student fee waiver will reduce your tuition by $420 per unit awarded.

What is the duration of the International Student Fee Waiver?

Fee waivers are granted to current international students for one academic year. Students must maintain eligibility in order to have the fee waiver renewed for the spring semester.

What are the award criteria?

The committee will consider the following criteria when reviewing grant applications:

  • Current F-1 student enrolled full-time in a Sacramento State degree program;
  • Record of academic excellence (minimum GPA 3.3);
  • Financial need
Are the fee waivers renewable?

Fee waivers are awarded for a specific academic year. They are not automatically renewable to the next academic year. Students must reapply each year.

If I am awarded a fee waiver, is it guaranteed for the spring semester?

No. Fee waiver recipients must maintain full time enrollment, good academic standing, and other eligibility criteria to retain the fee waiver for the spring semester.

How will I be notified if I have been selected for an award?

IPGE will notify awardees of their selection by email. Details concerning the amount of the grant award, as well as procedures for accepting or declining the award, will be included in the email message.

Can receipt of an award be postponed or deferred?

No. Students may not postpone or defer receipt of the award but can reapply during subsequent application cycles.

Who should I contact if I have more questions?

Questions may be emailed to intlgrant@csus.edu.
