Arriving in Sacramento

When and Where to Arrive

Earliest Arrival Date:

Students coming to the U.S. for the first time on a new F1 visa are allowed to enter the U.S. up to 30 days before the semester begins. Please check your I-20 or DS-2019 for the exact date your program beings. Students already attending a U.S. school with active F1 or J1 immigration status who are transferring to Sacramento State do not have this travel restriction.

Flights:

We recommend you fly into the Sacramento International Airport (SMF). The Sacramento Airport is the easiest and most convenient option to access Sacramento after a long flight from overseas or elsewhere in the US. Connecting flights to Sacramento are easily arranged from major airports such as San Francisco (SFO), Los Angeles (LAX), and other major US cities.

Ground Transportation from Sacramento International Airport:

Taxi: You can find taxis in the ground transportation area near the baggage claim. The fare for a taxi is approximate $50-55 for transport from SMF to the university area. If traveling together with a friend, this might be an affordable option to consider.

Other Ground Transportation Options from Sacramento International Airport include Uber, Lyft, Wingz, and Paratransit

Please be aware Sacramento State is not able to provide ground transportation services.

Ground Transportation from San Francisco International Airport:

San Francisco is located approximately 90 miles from Sacramento (2 hours by car/bus). Ground transportation from San Francisco is more time-consuming and often difficult when carrying multiple bags and heavy luggage. Options include Taxis, Amtrak, or private transportation like Davis Airporter.
