Portfolio Assignment: Fall 2000
Rationale:
The purpose of this assignment is to integrate instructional strategies and
the usage of technology by doing the following:
- identify an instructional strategy or blend of strategies;
- identify technology to support the strategy(ies);
- examine the literature for the strategy(ies) and technology; and
- describe how they can best be integrated.
The Problem
- Work in a collaborative group with a minimum of 3 and maximum of 4 persons.
- Identify a strategy or blend of strategies in a content (or
cross-curricular) area.
- Identify the technology you will use in conjunction with the strategy.
- Research the strategy.
- Use library and online resources to read research relevant to the strategy.
- Research elements:
- Identify an action research problem;
- Formulate a research question;
- State the purpose of the study (Revisit R. Burk Johnson's article,
"Examining the Validity Structure of Qualitative Research");
- Explain the procedure used.
- Put together a presentation (see below) of your integrated strategy.
The Presentation:
- Groups will present their strategy, its synthesis with tool use, and the
research procedures and findings in our next face-to-face meeting.
- Plan for a 45 minute presentation showing both the research and the lesson
or activity. Note that some of the research will be presented online in
planned sessions.

The Portfolio:
This project should be considered a part of your iMET
Portfolio. The mini-assignments and your Phorum postings may be included
