Source Analyses --> Step 1
At the end of units 2 & 4, when you are NOT writing an Observation Report, you must submit an analysis of one assigned readings from the half of the course you have just completed; additional readings are also available to earn extra credit. As for observation reports, you write for a peer who is unfamiliar with the topic, since several student Source Analyses will be assigned as readings for the final TRA and final application exercise.
A word of CAUTION: shorter sources are often more difficult to analyze.
Step 1: Source Analysis Worksheet
Choose a primary source from the relevant half of the coures (Units 1-2 for the first half of the course, Units 3-4 for the second half) and highlight important passages that seem most clearly related to the mutual influence of practice and reflection. NOTE: from Units 1-2, you must choose one of the sources describing pre-modern practice--NOT TOD. Then download and complete the Source Analysis Worksheet (SAW) provided here (PDF|MS Word), which asks you to identify
(A) evidence of practice & reflection in the source
(B) evidence of the way practice inspires reflection and reflection heightens engagement in practice; and
(C) similarities and differences between your chosen source and one of the other sources assigned for Application Exercises during the same half of the course.
Trial SAW --> OPTIONAL, for extra credit
If you wish to try completing a source analysis for materials related to the introductory unit of the course, you may receive up to 10 points for doing so no later than the FOURTH week of the course. Please use:
