Contemporary Practice Research
This assignment provides you with a direct experience of whichever contemporary practice you choose to focus on in each of your Practice Instructions Project. For each contemporary practice that you choose, you will either (1) visit a local event or site related to the practice or by (2) engage in something similar to that practice by yourself or with one or more others.
IMPORTANT: The contemporary practice you chose to research should be one that you feel you can recommend to the City Repair staff, which addresses the goal that the staff is trying to achieve, as articulated in the relevant scenario.
Extra Credit
If you choose a to go an extra mile with your research, you may receive up to ten (10) extra points on the relevant Practice Instructions Project, depending on the extent of your efforts and how well you document them. Such effort will typically involve:
- (for either option:) attend a volunteer orientation session
- (for the site visit:) staying at the event or site for an extended period (4-10 hours); and/or actively participating in the event
- (for the daily practice:) spending extended time doing a similar practice consistently at the same time of day for, at least 40-60 minutes three times a week; and or learning a practice that is highly complex (e.g., memorizing a text in a language you don't know) or rigorous (e.g., vigorous martial arts, etc.)
