Research and Project Experience
Dr. Armstrong has extensive research and project work in conducting seismic evaluations of earth structures that have included slope stability analysis studies, nonlinear deformation analysis (NDA) studies, and ground motion studies. NDA modeling has been conducted with FLAC. Ground motion studies have included deterministic seismic hazard analyses, probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, amplitude-scaled time history development, and spectrum-matched time history development. Research projects conducted by Dr. Armstrong have also include several detailed NDA studies. These projects include a two-year California Geological Survey Strong Motion Instrumentation Program NDA study, an International LEAP NDA study, and centrifuge modeling studies at the Center for Geotechnical Modeling at UC Davis.
