iOS 7 and Mavericks OSX 10.9 – One Person’s Opinion
The beauty of both recent updates provided by Apple is that they operate together in harmony much more than ever before. If you are lucky to own two or more Apple devices; an iMac, MacBook, iPod, iPad, and iPhone, you have the ability to “sync” calendars, reminders, and other info across all your Apple devices.
So why should you update? Let’s talk about iOS 7 first, since many more people have iPhones or iPads than iMacs or MacBooks. To update to iOS 7 you must have an iPad 2 or later, an iPhone 4 or later, or for those few iPod Touch users, the 5th generation. If you have any of these devices, I recommend updating, although for iPhone 4 users you might find your device may run a little slower than before.
There is an iPhone feature in iOS 7 that locks your phone to your Apple ID and password. With this “Find My iPhone” function turned on (recommended), your phone cannot be used by anyone else if it is lost or stolen unless they know your Apple ID and password. Police in many municipalities have been recommending this function for smartphones as a theft deterrent.
iOS 7 is not an update from earlier versions of iOS, but has been rewritten as a completely new design. Actually, it has been written for the new A7 processor, which is being used in the new iPhone 5s, iPad Air, and the new iPad mini with retina display. Many technology writers are saying that the A7 processor is like a desktop computer processor in a portable device because it is so fast and battery-conserving.

The new operating system for desktop computers (iMacs) and laptops (MacBooks) is OSX 10.9 or “Mavericks.” (Apple has run out of names for big cats so they have begun using California landmarks.) This is the tenth operating system OSX for the MacIntosh, and it, like iOS 7, is a rewrite, not an update. It is new and fresh with over 200 new features not found in previous versions! And, like iOS 7, Mavericks is ready to run on the fast, new chipset from Intel. Mavericks will work in any Mac that can run Snow Leopard (OSX 10.6).

If you have both and OS and an iOS device you can see the power of the “Apple Culture.” You can setup your keychain which will keep your login name, PIN and credit card info secure across all your Apple devices. These are so secure even Apple can not read them.
Remember you can use the Apple Store app on your iPhone and other devices to purchase accessories in the Apple Store. I would like to leave you with the following two links:
