The Emeritus Association Annual Champagne Brunch, Apr. 26, 2009
Warm jazz, sparkling wine, and the conversations never stopped.
The 2009 Emeritus Spring Brunch featured the Arlyn Anderson Trio of Sacramento State music students and the highest Sunday brunch attendance ever. See all the attendees below. You can locate your friends using the "Find a Friend" chart at the bottom of this page.
Alan Wade (photo left) chaired a brief and crisp meeting to elect board members for 2009-2010 and approve adjustments to the annual dues. There were many first-time attendees which included Jim and Elizabeth Livingston (table 2), Ken and Sally Owens (table 3), Bill and Rosemary Cloughley (table 4), Jorge and Alma Santana (photo right, table 4), Harry and Diane Dennis (table 4), Velma and Clifton Oakes (table 6), Sylvia Spencer (table 8), Barbara Arnstine (table 9), Renee Golanty-Koel and Bert Koel (table 9), Howard Harris (table 10) and Pat and Karl von den Steinen (table 10).
Our editor for the Silver Bulletin and articles editor for the SilverLink, Hortense Simmons, flew from her home in Atlanta, Georgia with her companion Alvin Smith (table 1). Runners up for having-traveled-great-distances-to-get-here were Velma and Clifton Oakes (table 6) from Etna, California.
We were pleased to have returned to us good friends recently recovered from physical problems: Bev Gerth and Harry Dennis, and Howard Harris whose wife passed away last year. Bob Bess, who has been the master planner behind the very successful changes in our social events, was taken suddenly ill a week before the brunch. A card was passed around for everyone to sign, but the sentiments deserve repeating here as well: GET WELL SOON, BOB. WE MISSED YOU VERY MUCH.

The Emeritus Association Annual Buffet Dinner, Nov. 6, 2009
Ensemble "To Make Us Proud"
Director Michael Sokol, piano accompaniest John Cozza and the CSUS Opera Workshop performed to standing ovation. The festive evening welcomed two new life members, Barbara Arnstine and Sharon Alexander, emeriti of the College of Education. New members were Priscilla Alexander, Ann Haffer, Ilene Conrad-Muller, Geri Welch, James Bosco, Duane Campbell, Joseph Morrow, Doris Ozuna, Rodney Sime, Valerie Wheeler, and Murray Work. In spite of a vicious attack by dogs, Eddie Cajucom limped into the Alumni Center with a great smile.
Karyn Domich and Lynda White performed their usual magic greeting people at the entrance with all the materials for the evening organized splendidly. Jean Torcom performed the wondrous feat of presenting members with their new 2010 memberships nearly two months early and Peter Shattuck chose the table wines and awarded 7 door prizes. Joseph Gibson, the evening's empressario, arranged for the meals and entertainment. Alan Wade provided considerable tongue-in-cheek humor as the master of ceremonies.
