Subject Matter Competency Evaluation
Evaluation Process Overview
There are two options in the State of California for establishing subject matter competence in the social sciences according to the California Commission on Teaching Credentialing.
Option one involves taking and passing the California Subject Matter Examinations for Teachers (CSET) for Single Subject Teaching Credentials (Social Sciences).
Option two involves completing a California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) approved baccalaureate program in Social Sciences as well as pre-credential requirements in any one of the California State University institutions including Sacramento State.
Competency Determination
To determine if the coursework from your baccalaureate program makes you subject matter competent to teach Social Sciences in public schools, you will need to submit official transcripts for evaluation by Sacramento State's Social Science Program.
If you are a Sacramento State graduate from any other degree program, not a Social Science major, please provide your student ID number.
