Let's celebrate Ted’s phenomenal 29-year career at California State University, Sacramento, the College of SSIS, and the PPA Department!
"Greetings to the nearly 150 attendees who have gathered tonight to honor and celebrate Ted’s phenomenal 29-year career at California State University, Sacramento, the College of SSIS, and the PPA Department. Let’s take a moment to recognize his immense contributions.
University: Serna Center Director, Director of the Center for CA Studies, Associate Director of the Education Doctorate Program, Academic Senator for 14 years,
Co-Director of MSULD, Recipient of the Livingston Award for Distinguished Faculty, President’s Award for Research and Creativity, and Editor of CA Journal of Politics and Policy.
College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies: Associate Dean, Interim Dean, and Chair of Numerous College Committees.
Department of Public Policy and Administration: Professor, Chairperson.
Research: Four academic books, 30+ academic articles, 10+ academic book chapters, and 20+ general audience commentaries.
On a more personal note, almost 30 years ago, President Gerth hired Ted as a full-time faculty member to strengthen the fledgling MPPA Program, which Cristy Jensen started. When I was presented with the same opportunity, I reached out to Ted, and our conversation revealed his intelligence, work ethic, empathy, and infectious sense of humor—qualities that have made him a beloved leader, colleague, teacher, research partner, and dear friend.
Ted, your 29 years of dedication and excellence have left an indelible mark on all of us. Our professional and personal bonds have been invaluable, making these years memorable and rewarding. I, like all of us here, wish you the best in retirement. Most importantly, do not be a stranger!
A heartfelt thank you to the over 100 individuals who contributed to the gifts for Ted. Here’s what we have for you:
Bicycle and Accessories: Enjoy your new cycling adventures; especially coffee-motivated rides between Davis and Winters—but watch out for those potholes!
Digital Frame: Sovannra has gathered cherished pictures from all of us. Feel free to add more memories.
Guest Book: This book contains contact info for all attendees. Please reach out for lunch, coffee, or even a bike ride!
PPA Swag: To spark engaging conversations during your visits to Davis coffee shops, all purchased with a generous donation to PPA’s DEI scholarship fund you helped establish.
Kings Hoody: Wear it with pride, and show off your love for the Kings!
Ted, your contributions have been monumental. Sac State administrators, staff, faculty, and all your PPA colleagues are grateful. But most importantly, your legacy rests with the nearly 500 students you have touched in the PPA Program. Enjoy your well-deserved retirement, and thank you for everything!"
