Internships in SSIS
Asian Studies
- The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Foundation: Promoting Understanding and Cooperation in U.S.-Asia Relations since 1983. The Mansfield Foundation offers full- and part-time unpaid internships for those interested in Asia-related issues or studies in Washington D.C., as well as in Tokyo.
Environmental Studies
To improve their employability after graduation, the Department of Environmental Studies encourages students to gain work experience, including internships aligned with their career interests.
Environmental Studies BA and BS programs require the completion of a 150-hour internship for ENVS 195, 3-unit credit. Internships can be paid or unpaid, and conducted at a range of organizations from local, state and federal government, to business, industry and not-for-profits, and community groups.
The syllabus for ENVS 195 can be found on the Department’s website: Environmental Studies | Sacramento State.
Students can also work with faculty to gain practical research experience for 1 to 3 units of credit in ENVS 199. Contact individual Environmental Studies faculty whose interests align with yours if considering a ENVS 199 project.
Political Science
- The Political Science Department Internship Program (POLS 195A) Students interested in internships can earn 1-6 units of credit through the Political Science Department Internship Program by enrolling in POLS 195A. The course is offered every fall, spring, and summer.
- Sacramento Semester Program
- The prestigious Sacramento Semester program offers a unique 12-unit internship experience every spring semester. Open to students from the entire CSU, the experience combines 6 units of internship with 6 units of related academic seminars.
Sociology
Students of sociology are always encouraged to gain practical experience while they are enrolled in the program at CSU Sacramento. Involvement in the internship program is an excellent way to explore the real world of sociology outside of the classroom. Most students consult with the Internship Coordinator and find a setting suitable to the student's desired sociological emphasis. We always have more internships than we have student interns, so finding an internship that will facilitate students' educational goals is rarely a problem.
Internship opportunities for Sociology majors are numerous and diverse. Some examples of recently completed internships include, but are not limited to:
- Community Opportunities: Project Optimism, International Rescue Committee, Francis House Center, I-CAN Crime Victims Assistance Network, Sacramento County Sheriff, Grant Union High School
- Research Opportunities: Institute for Social Research
- On-campus Opportunities: Project Rebound, Career Center
To see more potential internship sites that are contracted with the University, please explore the Community Partner List on the Community Engagement Center website.
