Faculty Council
Charge: The Faculty Council consists of six faculty members serving staggered two-year terms. The Faculty Council of the College of SSIS is the principle authority at the disposal of the faculty of the College in its relation with the Dean to assert, express, and protect the self-determining power of the faculty to govern the College to the furthest extent consistent with state law, system-wide policy, and local practice agreeable to the same.
Faculty Eligible to Serve: ALL FACULTY, no more than 2 members from the same department.
Meetings: 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month, 1:30 - 2:45 pm.
Term Length: 2 years
Workload: The council considers such matters as funding priorities, professional development, classroom assignments, information technology issues, and the like.

Staff Council
Purpose: The purpose of the Staff Council is to provide an advisory body representing staff (as defined in Article II, section A) within and affiliated with (e.g. centers) the College of Social Sciences and Interdisciplinary Studies (SSIS). Within the framwork of California state law, rules and policies of the Trustees of the California State University, Sacramento, and of the Dean of the College of SSIS, applicable to staff members, the Council shall:
i. Be an advisory group to the Dean of the College of SSIS.
ii. Be constituted to provide effective representation and deliberation for staff employees of the college on matters outside the scope of Collective Bargaining, but of interest to staff employees.
iii. Receive and evaluate suggestions and proposals submitted by staff employees on matters outside the scope of Collective Bargaining.
iv. Discuss and advise on matters including, but not limited to:
a. Staff recognition in areas such as, but not limited to, university/college years of service, retirement, births, deaths, weddings, graduations, promotions, entering new positions, and leaving positions, outside the scope of the Department of Human Resources, University Staff Assembly, and Collective Bargaining.
b. Staff concerns about safety and work conditions outside of the scope of Collective Bargaining.
c. Ideas for staff professional development.
d. Supporting staff in their contribution to the campus and greater Sacramento communities through social events/activities and community building events/activities.
Staff Eligible to Serve: Staff employees of the college and its affiliates who are employed in non-academic positions for a minimum of one year full or part-time service.
Meetings: Council members only: 4th Wednesdays, 11:00am - 12:00pm. With Deans: 2nd Thursdays, 2:00pm - 4:00pm

Outstanding Faculty Award Selection Committee
COMMITTEE: SSIS shall establish a committee of 5 – 9 member to serve staggered 2-year terms. Committee reviews nominations for all of the Outstanding Faculty Awards for the college. Elections are held in the spring. ALL FACULTY are eligible to serve on this committee.

Retention Committee 1
Faculty will not necessarily be grouped in this order.
Charge: Review the Working Personnel Action Files (WPAF's) for faculty under retention review (P2's - P5's).
Faculty Eligible to Serve: Each committee shall have 5 members. However, in the event of vacancies, recusals, or absences, any action taken by at least three members of the committee shall be a valid action. No more than 2 associates; no more than 2 FERP faculty in teaching status. No two committee members shall be members from the same department. Based on the number of retention faculty there may be a need for two retention committees. A full professor can serve on both the retention and promotion committee at the same time in the same ay. Chairs and Program Directors may serve on committees as long as they are not serving at the department level (no double dipping).
Meetings: Scheduled by committee.
Term Length: 2-year terms; all shall be elected at the same time.
Workload: Faculty serving on this committee are to review, on average, 10-13 cases per year over the two year period. Committee work goes through the fall semester. If needed, committee may be called on in the spring semester.

Secondary Committee for Promotion
Charge: Review the Working Personnel Action Files (WPAF's) for faculty under review for promotion.
Faculty Eligible to Serve: Full Professors only. This committee shall have 5 members. Members can serve on both the retention and the promotion committee at the same time in the same academic year. All terms are to end at the same time. Chairs, Program Directors, and full professors may serve on committees as long as they are not serving at the department level (no double dipping).
Meetings: Scheduled by committee.
Term Length: 2-year terms; all shall be elected at the same time.
Workload: Faculty serving on this committee are to review, on average, 6-9 cases per year over the two year period.
