Undergraduate Research Symposium on Black Life and Culture

This symposium highlights the groundbreaking research of undergraduate students exploring the intersections of Pan-Africanism, race, class, and gender. It provides a platform for students to engage in critical discourse, demonstrating the depth and impact of their work. More than just an academic exercise, this event empowers students to articulate the significance of their research within scholarly communities and in shaping broader conversations that influence American society.

Undergraduate participants will present original research or creative works related to Pan African and/or Black Diaspora Studies on their chosen topic.

This one-day symposium will feature moderated panels of undergraduate research papers, video projects, performances, poster board presentations, visual art, slide presentations, and an array of other scholarly and creative mediums.

The abstract is a short description of what your proposed symposium presentation will be about. For a research paper, your abstract should include the topic of your paper, some brief context, the questions or problem you will address, your argument or thesis, and the significance of your research. For creative works, your abstract should describe the medium of your work (i.e., spoken word, visual art, documentary, etc.), the topic, the questions or problems you will explore, and the connection to Black life and culture. It is alright if you do not know exactly what your conclusions or the exact shape of your creative work will be, but you should share as much information as possible.
