ASIA 190
In January, ASIA 190: Travel Study to Asia, kicked off the new initiative of International Programs and Global Engagement and the College of Continuing Education for Faculty Led Study Abroad courses by taking 12 Sacramento State Students to Matsuyama, Japan. The faculty leader was Prof. Jeffrey Dym. Though the trip had run previously, this was the first time it was run as an Asian Studies course through CCE. While in Japan students read and learned about Natsume Soseki, one of Japan’s most famous writers, read about and visited Hiroshima, visited pre-modern castles and towns, and spent a day walking part of the 88 temple Shikoku pilgrimage. In addition, to the formal classroom and fieldtrip educational experiences, students learned a great deal about Japan and themselves as they navigated living in Japan on their own.
