Facilities and Equipment

The Geospatial Lab @ Sacramento State is housed within Geography's departmental office. The facility has space to simultaneously house four student assistants working on grants, contracts, and projects on dual-screen workstations. We also have several GPS-enabled mobile devices for field data collection.

Visualization equipment includes:

  • a large-scale digital screen
  • large-scale plotters
  • large-scale scanner
  • three-dimensional scanner
  • three-dimensional printers
  • laser cutter/engraver
  • color and black-and-white printers

The Geospatial Lab @ Sacramento State also has access to an 18-seat computer teaching lab equiped with dual-screen workstations installed with a selection of software including GIS, image analysis, databases, statistical programs, cartographic and graphic design, geovisualization, web applications, and desktop publishing.

Geospatial Software

Esri ArcGIS

Sacramento State-affiliated personnel have free educational, non-commerical access to Esri's ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online. Software can be downloaded and installed following directions at: GIS Lab Computer Resources

Please note that Esri's ArcGIS Desktop is end-of-life and unavailable as of Oct 1, 2024. Starting Oct 1, 2024 you will need to log into ArcGIS Pro using Saclink Single-Signon (SSO).

Esri ArcGIS Online

ArcGIS Online (AGOL) can be accessed by going to: http://csus.maps.arcgis.com. You can use AGOL to create Web Maps, Web Apps, Collector maps, and Survey123 forms.
