SEE Program Leadership

Dr. Gonzalez-OrtaEnid González-Orta, Ph.D. (She/Her/Hers)
SEE Director, CSU-LSAMP at Sacramento Campus Coordinator, Sacramento State RISE Program PI, and Professor of Biological Sciences

Dr. González-Orta, a microbiologist, is a professor in the Department of Biological Sciences and has been the Director for SEE since 2011. Besides her role as the Director, she has been a research mentor and advisor to SEE, CSU-LSAMP and RISE students. She is dedicated to causes and programs that advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion. Dr. González-Orta is also very involved with the Tiny Earth Network.

Richard, a first generation college graduate from Sacramento State recieved his bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences and was a member of the SEE Program. After graduation he served as the SEE Activities Coordinator/Advisor until becoming the SEE Services Coordinator in November 2014. As the coordinator, he works in providing a diverse community and resources for students. He is dedicated to providing students with a welcoming environment and sharing his knowledge about being a sucesseful student, Prehealth, Graduate Education, Teaching, Research, and preparing for the workforce in STEM. Richard is also the advisor to the student club groups MAPS and NSMJC.

Dr. Semarhy Quiñones is from Puerto Rico, where she completed her bachelor’s in microbiology before moving to California for her PhD at UC Davis. As part of the Success Center, she works with students from the CSU-LSAMP at Sacramento State and the Sacramento State RISE programs who are interested in pursuing graduate studies. She is also the Faculty Advisor for the SACNAS at Sac State Student Chapter promoting the need for diversity, equity and inclusion in the STEM fields.

Karissa is a third-year Biological Sciences major wo aspires to become a Physician Assistant. She enjoys assisting her peers develop new study strategies and helping them succeed in their coursework. In her free time, Karissa loves to hike and hopes to hike Half Dome this year. She also loves to attend baseball games and spend quality time with her family and friends.

Shajia FarzeenShajia Farzeen
Shajia is a second-year Public Health major with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. She derives satisfaction from assisting her fellow students in developing innovative study tactics and offering support for their academic achievements. In her spare time, Shajia enjoys watching movies and trying new food and drink places. She is looking forward to meeting everyone and helping them out when she can.

SEE Ambassadors


The SEE Ambassadors are the peer mentors of the SEE Program. SEE Ambassadors meet with students to help them get familiar with resources in the SEE Program, Center for Science and Math Success, the College and University. Ambassadors help in cultivating a welcoming community where students feel they belong and connect with others that will allow them to be successful in their education at Sacramento State. Eugene DukaEugene Duka
Eugene is a fifth year double major in Psychology and Biology with the goal of becoming a physcian specalizing in neurosurgery. He has served students in various capacities since entering Sac State and has enjoyed seeing students thrive when they have good support. In his free time, he enjoys watching sports, runnin, playing tennis, and learning the guitar. In his role as an Ambassador, Eugene is looking forward to helping students any way he can!

Lavina LeLavina Le
Lavina is a Biochemistry major. Before becoming a SEE Ambassador, she has been an analytical intern for Origin Material for almost a year. THeir mission is to enable thw world's transition to sustainable materials. She has work experience in different enviornments such as retail, clerical, educaiton, and laboratory. I would be happy to share more about her different experiences. During her free time, Lavina enjoys spending time with her friends and sisters, trying new foods and coffee places and exploring nature. She also enjoys organizing and planning. Lavina is super excited to be joining the SEE Ambassador team and helping students in any way she can.

Thu NguyenThu Nguyen
Thu is a transfer student majoring in Biological Sciences. Her goal is to become a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the future. Thu likes working with others to solve puzzles or simply helping people and learning morea bout them. She understands that sometimes our lives are not just a puzzle that we know how to solve all the time, but we can keep trying. Thu is excited to work with everyone to achieve their goals.
