Programs Offered at Sac State
- NSM 88: Exploring Health Careers (1 unit)
Designed for pre-professional students, this self exploration course will assist students in determining whether a career in the health professions is suitable to their interest, skills, and values. In addition to exploring the traditional health professions medicine, pharmacy, etc., students will have opportunity to explore alternative health professions and career options. This active learning course will include lectures, discussions, individual and group projects, informational interviews, and guest speakers. One hour per week. - Bio 186C: Intro to Health Careers (1 unit)
Designed for pre-health professional students who are in the process of researching traditional and non-traditional health professions and careers. This course consists of at least 10 seminars presented by various practicing health professionals, health professional students, and health professional school admissions officers. Topics vary each semester. One hour per week. - RPTA 6: Medical Terminology (3 units) (Note: Course is cross listed with HHS 6)
Introduction to medical terminologies for health professions will provide students the opportunity to recognize and apply the use of medical terms with the necessary primary knowledge to work in a variety of health professions. Students will learn medical root words, prefixes, and suffixes and apply them to the body systems. This will also develop competencies required to read and understand medical reports and communicate with physicians and other allied medical professionals.

Pre-Health Advisors Listserv
Join the Sacramento State pre-health advisors listserv. This is an excellent venue to ask other advisors questions regarding various health professions that students might ask you. As a member of the listserv, you will receive updated information from the various health professional organizations like AAMC, ADEA, etc., information about professional development or informational webinars, and information on programs for students to gain experience in the field. If you are interested in joining, email prehealth@csus.edu to be added.
Pre-Health Advising Professional Organization
Join the National Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (NAAHP). NAAHP serves as a resource for the professional development of health professions advisors. When you join NAAHP, you automatically become a member of the regional association, Western Association of Advisors for the Health Professions (WAAHP). Annual membership is $195. Visit their website for additional information and how to join.
