Kyle Bello has lived in the greater Sacramento area his entire life. He began his college journey at Sierra College, which he attended for 1.5 years, eventually earning an associate degree in Natural Science. After Sierra College, Kyle transferred to Sac State, where he recently graduated in the fall of 2023. He is looking forward to continuing to pursue his Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Sac State next Fall.

Meet 2023-2024 HHS Dean’s Honors Award Winner: Alyssa Brown.
The second of thirteen children, Alyssa Brown knew that education was key to her future. She started college under challenging circumstances, juggling work and classes, sometimes while homeless. But she never gave up. When she earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice in December 2023, she became the first person in her family to graduate from college. Alyssa plans to attend law school and build a career where she can help others.

Supporting Families & Individuals That Struggle through Suicide Issues
Meet 2023-2024 HHS Dean’s Honors Award Winner: Caitlyn Desimone.
Caitlyn Desimone has performed well academically and has also received recognition for her work outside of school. She has also overcome adversity and engaged in strong advocacy for causes she cares about, including suicide awareness. For three years, she has worked at the Vacaville Neighborhood Boys & Girls Club, working her way from intern to Program Director. In recognition of her strong work there, she received the Staff of the Year Award in 2023.

Simran holds an undergraduate degree in Public Health with a specialization in Healthcare Administration from California State University, Sacramento. Her academic journey has instilled a deep understanding of healthcare complexities. Intrigued by the intricate web of healthcare challenges, Simran is equipped to tackle issues head-on.
With a keen focus on addressing systemic health disparities and improving healthcare accessibility, Simran Ghuman is committed to driving positive change in the face of evolving healthcare challenges.

Meet 2023-2024 HHS Dean’s Honors Award Winner: Oscar Hernandez.
At fourteen years old, Oscar embraced deeply rooted lessons of hard work by working at a local food truck to save for college. From this age, he felt inspired by his father’s emigration from Jalisco, Mexico, with nothing but clothes on his back. His father’s determination to ensure a better life for his family continues to influence Oscar as a first-generation college graduate and registered nurse. He honors his father’s sacrifices by providing empowering, high-quality healthcare.

Growing up, Raven knew that public service would be her career choice. Healthcare won over her heart when she found out that her siblings and friends didn’t have the same interest in picking scabs and wondering how they grew back. Healthcare is a passion that continues to inspire her as a medical assistant. As a wife and mother of four, Raven's desire is to show future generations that reward comes with never giving up.

Kelsey Mikelson is a dedicated student passionate about equal rights, with extensive experience in community outreach and advocating for inclusivity. She has served a multitude of populations, including behavioral health, mental health, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities among all ages. Kelsey is committed to making an impact in communities as a future Recreational Therapist, grounding herself on the importance of making space that will allow others to believe in the hope of seeing their worth.

MANAR TAYEH

Wife, Mother, and Budding Speech-Language Pathologist
Meet 2023-2024 HHS Dean’s Honors Award Winner: Manar Tayeh.
Manar Tayeh is a senior at California State University, Sacramento, majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders, hoping to pursue a career in speech-language pathology. Her interest in this field stems from her passion for helping others and her desire to serve the community. Manar also serves as a club board member, focusing on diversity and inclusion within the field. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and baking with her children.
