Associate's of Science Transfer Degree (AS-T)
AS-T is an acronym for the Associate in Science degree that is designed specifically for transfer to the California State University System. The degree is the result of Senate Bill 1440, a transfer bill that required California community colleges to offer associate degrees for transfer in many of the most popular majors, and for the CSU to provide priority admission to California community college students who have earned an AS-T degree. These degrees can be completed in 60 transferable semester units (or 90 quarter units) and include coursework in general education, major preparation and electives.
Frequently Asked Questions
Students who complete an AS-T receive several benefits during the Admission process.
- They will meet the minimum eligibility requirements and are guaranteed admission to a CSU.
- During the supplemental application review period, students will:
- Receive an increase of .1 towards their GPA
- Be allowed to have CRJ 1, 2, 4 and 5 in progress. Non-AS-T transfer students are not allowed this exemption.
Note: We strongly urge you to complete these courses. No other lower division criminal justice courses will be applied to your major graduation requirements. Failure to have completed the prerequisite equivalents before transferring could delay completion of your degree.
An AS-T in Administration of Justice will give you eligibility to apply to the Criminal Justice major with fewer prerequisite classes completed and a 0.1 GPA bonus. Otherwise, all four prerequisite courses must be complete at the time of application. Please see the chart below for comparison:
Course Requirement | With AS-T Degree | Without AS-T Degree |
---|---|---|
CRJ 1 | Must at least be in-progress | Must be complete |
CRJ 2 | Must at least be in-progress | Must be complete |
CRJ 4 | Does not need to be complete | Must be complete |
CRJ 5 | Does not need to be complete | Must be complete |
Students must declare the AS-T at their community college and complete 60 semester units (or 90 quarter units) of required general education coursework and major-specific lower division coursework. To be as competitive as possible, keep your grades up in community college and make sure you meet the admissions requirements for the CSU campus and the major that interests you, and submit all application materials by the posted deadlines.
Students who earn an AS-T degree and meet the CSU minimum eligibility requirements are guaranteed admission to a CSU, but not necessarily to a particular campus or major.
No. Students with an AS-T degree in Administration of Justice need to both apply for admission to Sacramento State, as well as to the Criminal Justice program by submitting the Supplemental Application. They must also meet the grade requirement of at least a C in any completed course prerequisites and have a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Although, AS-T graduates may be admitted to the major without completion of all four lower division courses, we strongly urge you to complete these courses. No other lower division criminal justice courses will be applied to your major graduation requirements. Delaying the completion of the prerequisite courses until you transfer will delay your degree progress. You must also have at least a C in any completed prerequisite coursework, a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and at least 45 units completed.
Did you remember to apply to the major via the Supplemental Application process? Even if you meet the AS-T requirements and turned in the admissions paperwork on time, you won't be admitted if you don't also apply to the major.
Transfer students applying to an impacted major must submit a Supplemental Application to be considered for the major. Submitting an admissions application to Sac State Admissions and Outreach does not satisfy the supplemental application process.
Do you have at least a C in your completed prerequisite courses? Grades below a C will disqualify you from the major.
Is your GPA at least a 2.5? Lower GPA's will disqualify you from the major.
No, you are only allowed to use the AS-T criteria for the semester of transfer. When you apply to Sac State, you must declare that you are pursuing an AS-T so that it is on your official records.
