Counseling Services

My job is to help students address problems of living, including emotional, social, and academic challenges, by providing short-term psychotherapy. The first step is scheduling a consultation to meet with me for a 50-minute, initial consultation to explore your strengths and struggles and collaborate on a plan to enhance your life. Some examples of presenting problems that bring people to counseling include the following:

  • Stress
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Academic Struggles
  • Concentration Problems
  • Procrastination
  • Loss of Motivation
  • Family Problems
  • Sleep Issues
  • Eating Problems
  • Body Image Concerns
  • Trauma
  • Grief/Loss
  • Relationship Difficulties
  • Social Communication Challenges
  • Isolation and Loneliness
  • Transitional/Adjustment Problems
  • Emotional Regulation Problems
  • Problematic Substance Use
  • Cultural Difficulties
  • Experiences of Discrimination
  • Sexual and/or Gender Identity concerns
  • Career Concerns

Counseling can also be utilized when a student is already well functioning but is seeking self-improvement, perhaps in academic, work or relationship behavior. Counseling aims to build upon students’ strengths, enhance skills, and develop a deeper understanding of self in relation to others.

Facilitators: Zachary Stahl, LMFT (he/him) z.stahl@csus.edu and Paul Tran, LCSW (he/him) paul.tran@csus.edu

Guys' Group offers a supportive non-judgmental environment for men, inclusive of all male identities on the gender spectrum, to come together to share their experiences while receiving support and feedback from other group members. Guys' Group helps men as they develop insight into themselves, build their emotional intelligence, and strengthen their relationships with others. Topics can include general issues that men face such as stress, mental health challenges, relationships, gender identity and gender role expectations, masculinity, and we encourage individual expression and stories.
