Current Partnerships & Internship Opportunities
Our program holds a strong commitment to supporting the mental health needs of our local community. We achieve that not only through the education of our students, but also through both our on-campus Counseling & Diagnostic Service Center (CCDS) and valuable community partnerships. While the list is constantly growing, we would like to highlight some of the key partnerships we have with mental health programs in northern California.

Community Advisory Board Graduate Student Representatives:
Career Counseling Representative: ElijahMy name is Elijah and I am a first-year student in our M.S. in Counseling Program here at Sac State. My specialization is Career, but I hope to also earn my LPCC after graduation. I am a graduate from Sac State, receiving my B.A. in Psychology in 2022. While a student, I had a variety of student serving roles such as being an Instructional Assistant, Prospects Peer Mentor, and DEGREES Project Coach. I've also conducted university-wide research regarding student retention. After graduation, I landed a full-time gig at Sac State as an Outreach Coordinator. I currently facilitate community partnerships and recruit students to our university and Black Honors College. In my free time, I am a big car guy and have owned 8 cars since graduating. I frequent car meets and love to drive. I also love to box and did so up until I graduated college.
Lastly, I am a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and am actively serving the community alongside the Sacramento Alumni Chapter. I look forward to being involved with our counseling community and serving as a member of the Community Advisory Board.
Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling Representative: Flona
Hello! My name is Flona (she/her). I am currently a graduate student in the Counseling program, specializing in the Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling (MCFC) concentration. I graduated from Saint Mary’s College of California with a degree in Health Science and minors in Psychology and Biology. While I initially sought out a path in medicine, I came to realize that my true passion lies in counseling and improving access to mental health services. After finishing my undergraduate studies, I spent about a year working in Human Resources while simultaneously applying for this master's program. That experience gave me insight into the importance of creating supportive environments for personal and professional growth, which further fuels my passion for counseling. I am grateful to be part of this program and excited to collaborate with the Sacramento State community through my involvement in the Community Advisory Board.
Hello! My name is Sam (she/her), and I am currently pursuing my M.S. in Counseling with a specialization in Rehabilitation at Sacramento State. My academic journey began at Sacramento City College, where I earned my A.A. in Psychology and Behavioral & Social Sciences. I continued my education at Sacramento State, completing my B.A. in Sociology in May 2024.Throughout my undergraduate experience, I was actively involved as a peer mentor in Soc Circle, an organization initiated by the Sociology Faculty at Sac State. This role allowed me to support my fellow students in creating community and fostering connections both during college and beyond, highlighting the importance of social support systems in academia. With well over a decade of experience in Special Education, I have dedicated my career to providing students with academic, socio-emotional, and behavioral support in and out of the classroom. My work has reinforced my passion for multicultural and social justice competencies, as I have witnessed firsthand how systemic inequities affect intentionally underserved students' access to resources and mental health. As I continue to grow and learn throughout this program, I hope to be able to collaborate and create more connections with my fellow classmates and faculty in Counselor Ed. I look forward to serving on the Community Advisory Board as your Student Representative!
Hello everyone! My name is Joe, and I am currently a first-year student in our amazing Counseling Program here at Sacramento State. I completed my bachelor's degree in Liberal Studies, also at Sac State. My passion has always been working with students and through my experiences working as an Instructional Assistant, Substitute Teacher, and Intervention teacher, has helped guide me into making the decision to follow my dream to be a counselor. As a counselor in training, my specialization is in School. I am dedicated to empowering students by harnessing their strengths and guiding them in academic and social-emotional growth. My goal is to be able to provide students a safe space and environment for them to flourish. Some of my self-care routines include walking my dogs, playing basketball, and trying new places to eat. I’m thrilled to be a part of this counseling community and super excited to continue to learn and see through the different lenses of my friends, classmates, instructors, and communities!
Thank you to our Community Advisory Board Members:
