(1) Career Counseling Concentration: Sammy

SammyHi! I'm Sammy and I am currently pursuing my MS in Counseling, specializing in career and clinical mental health counseling. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in counseling at San Francisco State University. I currently work in the Counseling department at American River College and am passionate about working with first-generation, low-income college students.

I have experience working with a diverse population of clients and am passionate about fostering an inclusive and safe space for clients to share their thoughts, enabling their self-exploration. One of my goals is to continuously educate myself on current events and to incorporate a multicultural approach in my work to best serve clients, recognizing the importance and influence culture can have on the individual’s lived experience. I'm happy and eager to work with prospective students this upcoming academic year.

(2) Marriage, Couple, & Family Concentration (MCFC):

We have two ambassadors available for MCFC help: Kariece and Megan – feel free to reach out to either (or both) for more information.

Kariece

Kariece
Hello everyone! My name is Kariece, and I am a third-year student in the MS in Counseling Program, specializing in MCFC. I earned my associate’s degree in social and behavioral sciences from Sierra College before transferring to Sacramento State, where I completed my bachelor’s degree in psychology. My journey has been guided by a strong commitment to helping others navigate their personal and academic challenges, which fuels my passion for counseling.

I am dedicated to supporting individuals and families by creating safe, compassionate spaces where they can thrive. My goal is to become a professional therapist, working to strengthen family relationships and contribute positively to our community.

When I’m not immersed in my studies, I enjoy connecting with nature, practicing self-care through creative outlets, and traveling. As an ambassador, I am excited to share my experiences and insights. Whether you have questions about the application process, resources or what to expect from the program, I’m here to help. Congratulations on taking the next step in your education.

Megan

Megan

Hello! I'm Megan (she/her), a third-year MS in Counseling student specializing in MCFC at Sacramento State. I am born and raised in Sacramento and am very proud to be a Hornet!

Prior to this program, I earned my BA in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Administration from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

As a Counseling Ambassador for the program, I am excited to share my passion for this field and support prospective students. I'm looking forward to beginning my field study at the Sacramento Children’s Home in the fall, where I hope to apply my skills and experiences with foster youth within our community. Though the MS in Counseling program has been challenging, it has also been exceptionally rewarding. I am driven to use my education to address systemic issues and work towards a more just and equitable future. I'm honored to be a part of this impactful program and look forward to meeting you!

(3) Rehabilitation Counseling Concentration: Cory

Cory

Hello! My name is Cory! I’m looking forward to working with you as you apply to our program! I am a third year student in the rehabilitation specialization! Since I was a teenager, I have been interested in working with people. I earned my bachelor's degree in Sociology with a minor in Counseling from San Francisco State University. I went on to earn my first master’s degree which was in Special Education (Visual Impairments) also from SFSU. I have worked with teenagers and young adults with visual impairments on transitioning into adulthood and independence. In addition to that, I have volunteered as a Cross-Country Ski Guide and Sea Kayak guide going on trips with people with various disabilities and those coming from disadvantaged backgrounds to enjoy outdoor adventures!

I have come to Sacramento State to earn my degree so that I can work with people, particularly those who experience disability, towards empowerment in their own lives and communities. I have grown so much through our program! I have gotten to work with clients in our Center for Counseling and Diagnostic Services and am now interning with the Disability Access Center here on campus. There is so much that goes into becoming a counselor. Even applying to a master’s program can feel confusing and overwhelming. I am looking forward to sharing my experience at sac state, what I know so far about working in counseling and working with you on the process of applying for our program.

(4) School Counseling Concentration: Callie

Callie

Hello! My name is Callie. I am a 3rd year student in the school counseling specialization.

I received my BS in Business/Accounting here at Sacramento State, and I have worked for local non-profit community agencies for over a decade. After some soul searching during the pandemic, I realized I wanted to make a more direct impact in my community through counseling.

I hope to support students by providing preventative social/emotional education as well as contribute to their journey in getting to know themselves and what they want to do after high school. I am currently a counseling intern at Westlake Charter School in Natomas. Outside of work and school, I love to take care of my garden, read thrilling and funny fiction and visit family. I am eager to share my experiences thus far in the MS in Counseling Program and I would love to answer any questions you may have about the program. Hope to hear from you soon!
