Unit 11 Student Employment

Student employees play a vital role in filling employment needs in the College of Arts & Letters departments and are an integral part of our success.

Forms

There are multiple forms required for Student Employment. Below is a list/link to the forms required by the University and the College. Each dept may require additional forms. All forms are avaialbe in the Teams folder, once completed, are to be loaded to the appropriate teams folder for College review. The College will enter student employment forms into OnBase for the Academic Year. Summer aplications and applications related to an accomidation are to be entered by the respective depts.

  1. ASE/Unit 11 Application is required by Student Hiring. When calculating the time base for a TA/GA use the mandatory university Time-Base Table.

  3. College of Arts & Letters - Student Employment Personnel Transaction Form is required by the College and available on the teams folder. When calculating the time base for a TA/GA use the mandatory university Time-Base Table.
  4. Exception Letter is required from the Dept. Chair (a word document) if the Student Employee has one or more of the following:
    • If the Dept. will pay above the minimum allowable wage for the position.
    • if the prospective student employee has a designated major outside of the dept applying for.
    • A Low GPA or Does not meet or Exceeds Unit load
      • Undergraduate Students Unit
        • Load: 6 min – 15 max per semester
        • GPA Minimum: 2.50 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.50 GPA
      • Graduate Students
        • Unit Load: 4 min – 12 max per semester
        • GPA Minimum: 3.00 (overall), newly admitted students: 2.75 GPA

Hiring Time Line

There are two timelines to consider for student hiring.

  1. The university time lines for which a student may work. These date are the soonest and the latest dates a student may work. If the student is an International Student, inquire with Coordinator of International Student and Scholar Services at International Programs for these college dates.
  2. The college time line for which a student may be contracted.

Payroll Services

Payroll Services is responsible for processing all documentation associated with the issuance of payroll warrants to all employees including special consultants, casual workers and student assistants.
