Advising for Our Majors
If you are a current student who has declared Design Studies, Graphic Design, Interior Architecture, or Photography as your major, you will automatically be assigned a faculty advisor through the Department of Design main office. The best thing is to make an appointment through EAB.
If you are interested in one of our degrees but have not yet been assigned a faculty advisor, please contact the department office at (916) 278-3962 to secure one. All advisors are full-time professors in the department and you can find their contact and appointment scheduling information on the Meet the Faculty page.
Stay in Touch
Plan to meet with a faculty advisor as soon as you declare one of our majors. Ideally, you'll meet with your assigned advisor at least once per academic year, usually a few weeks before enrolling in classes for the next term.
When you begin your upper-division coursework, it is helpful to meet with your advisor to discuss appropriate substitutions, catalog rights, and elective selections. This will prepare you for the graduation application process and ensure you are able to complete all the major requirements before your projected graduation date. This is especially true if you transferred from another college, since some courses won’t automatically transfer.
When the time comes, you should meet with your advisor before submitting your online graduation application—to confirm the accuracy and completeness of your major requirements.
Applying to the Graphic Design Program
The number of students applying to the Graphic Design program at Sacramento State has consistently exceeded the available resources for the past 20+ years. To maintain a high level of quality in education, and allow for graduation in a timely manner, enrollment is limited. In order to complete the BFA in Graphic Design, you must apply and be accepted into the Upper Division program an annual supplemental application and portfolio review. Please review the document linked below for more information.
