California Cannabis Consumption Study (C3)

ACTIVE ONCE AGAIN!

With COVID-19 restrictions now lifted, C3 is once again active and excited to be conducting this groundbreaking work on behalf of the Department of Pesticide Regulation.

It is our intention to be back in the field working with dispensaries and conducting interview March through May 2023!

Dispensaries interested in assisting us in our recruitment efforts, please see the additional information below or contact the project coordinator, Mayra Villarreal (contact information below).

Consumers interested in participating in our study, please contact the project coordinator, Mayra Villarreal (contact information below).

Project Information

Purpose

PRC conducts C3 on behalf of the California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) with the aim of measuring the quantity of cannabis product consumption by Californians in order to understand exposure to residual pesticides. This research will assist DPR in protecting the health of cannabis users from pesticide residues.

Overview

We are recruiting cannabis users throughout California to participate in our cannabis use study. Our goal is to reach a diverse population of cannabis users in order to learn more about the types of cannabis and the quantities they consume. This information will be used to help gauge the average cannabis user’s exposure to residual pesticides.

Potential participants will be recruited at dispensary locations throughout the state and be interviewed by one of our trained staff. Shoppers who take the survey will receive a $25 Amazon gift card at the time of completion. All data gathered will be strictly confidential and used for research purposes only. We are not seeking to obtain information about dispensaries as a business, nor are we interested in sales data or purchase history of the people we survey. We are only interested in what consumers self-report in terms of their own personal use of cannabis, as well as limited demographic information. C3 does not collect names or contact information from study participants – all information collected is strictly confidential.

Information for Dispensaries

All of the dispensaries invited to assist in this study will play a simple yet critical role in our research efforts. Both recruitment and interviewing will involve little to no involvement of dispensary management and staff. Our goal is to be as unobtrusive as possible. All we need is a small area where we can set up a table to complete our interviews with people shopping at your storefront. Our setup will be similar to that of a vendor’s table, with the main difference being that we are not selling anything. Our research is for scientific purposes only, and will greatly benefit the cannabis industry as a whole.

A few important things to note:

  • Participation in our recruitment and data collection efforts is strictly voluntary. Dispensaries may choose not to participate at all or discontinue participation at any time. Recruitment and data collection at the dispensary location will not happen without expressed permission, and will only take place at pre-approved times.
  • At no time will personally identifiable information nor information about your business operations be asked. We are only interested in learning about cannabis usage from the perspective of adult consumers who shop at dispensaries.
  • Our trained staff will make every effort to be as unobtrusive as possible to your normal business operations.
  • Research staff will be available to answer any questions or address any concerns during the recruitment and interviewing process.
