The President of California State University, Sacramento directs that all radioactive materials and equipment capable of producing ionizing radiation shall be handled in accordance with the provisions of the Radiation Safety Manual which presents campus policy, standards and procedures for compliance with regulations of the applicable governmental agencies.

The manual applies to all radioactive materials and radiation generating machines requiring licensing or registration in accordance with Title 17, California Code of Regulations.

Accordingly, no one can possess, use, store or transport any such radioactive material to the campus (the only exception is natural radioactivity such as contained in ores and rocks) or operate any such radiation-producing machine unless authorized to do so by the Radiation Safety Committee, in writing, before such possession, use storage, transportation or operation. Individuals violating this requirement at Sacramento State are not only subject to disciplinary action by the University, but are also subject to actions by the regulatory agencies as well.
