Training Offered

Risk Managment Services, Emergency Management, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, and Workers' Compensation offer an extensive list of safety training classes for students, faculty, and staff. Below is a list of some of our most requested trainings which are available online through CSU Learn, as well as in person or on Zoom/Teams.

Emergency Management

  • Building Coordinator/Floor Marshal Training: The campus Building Coordinator and Floor Marshal Program consists of department chairs, faculty, and staff who assist with evacuation in the event of an emergency. Floor Marshals are needed in every floor of every building on campus. In the event of an evacuation, Building Coordinator(s) and Floor Marshals will be wearing orange or yellow safety vests. They will guide students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the nearest emergency exit and direct them to the building’s evacuation Rally Point. Register to Attend

  • Business Continuity Plan Training: Business continuity is more than just the ability to recover from a disaster; it is the ability to continue operating before, during and after a catastrophic event. With an emphasis on teamwork and communication, Risk Management has created training classes to show users how to navigate the web-based software Sac State Ready, to help identify the critical functions within your department and create or rebuild your business continuity plan to map out and increase recovery processes and time.   • The Campus Disaster/Emergency Preparedness: Emergency Action Training process is self directed (under the guidance of the employee’s supervisor) and is designed to require employees to physically familiarize themselves with evacuation routes, assembly locations, and emergency equipment unique to their work location. Must be completed by all new employees and employees who have changed work locations.
    • You will need to fill out and submit the Emergency Action Training Checklist (Acrobat Sign form that requires your Single Sign On: My Sac State) on the Campus Disaster/Emergency Preparedness has been completed.

  • CPR, AED, and First Aid Training and Certification: Whether you need First Aid, CPR, and AED training that satisfies OSHA-mandated job requirements, workplace, or other regulatory requirements, or you just want to know how to keep your loved ones safe, it is available to all Sac State employees for free. Environmental Health & Safety

  • Injury & Illness Prevention Program: The Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) is a written workplace safety program required by Cal-OSHA T8 CCR §3203. The regulation requires that every employer develop and implement an effective IIPP.

  • Safety Training for Science and Engineering: EH&S offers a comprehensive set of trainings for use in the laboratory setting to include, Fundamentals of Laboratory Safety, Hazardous Communications, Hazardous Waste Management, among many others. Training requirements are specifically tailored to individual needs. Contact EH&S or the NSM Dean’s Office for more details.

  • Safety Training for Trades: EH&S offers a comprehensive set of trainings in the safe opperation of many tools and proceedures for the Trades personnel on campus. Training requirements are specifically tailored to individual Trades needs. Some of the training includes (but not limited to):
    • Boom Lift and Mobil Aerial Work Platform
    • Confined Space
    • Hazard Communication
    • Forklift

Ergonomics

Sacramento State's Workers' Compensation wants to provide information and educate people on the basics of ergonomics in order to avoid injury.


Driving on University Business

Driving on University Business can include occasionally using your personal vehicle to attend an off-site meeting or conference, driving a university vehicle while conducting official business, and/or driving a golf cart on and around campus.

  • Defensive Driver Training: Defensive Driver Training is a course that is required if driving more than once a month or twelve times a year or driving a University-Owned vehicle. The driver must repeat this training every four years.

  • Golf Cart Safety Training: Golf Cart Safety Training is a course that is required if driving a golf cart on campus. The driver must repeat this training every four years.

Youth Protection Program

The Youth Protection Program intends to identify events and activities that serve, or otherwise engage youth, and establish standards and protocols for their safety and protection.

  • Your Guide to Working with Minors: This guide will help you work effectively with youth. It offers good practices, describes the signs of child abuse and neglect, and explains your legal duty to make a report. Following this guide will help you protect youth and also protect yourself.
