About the Placer Campus

Placer County is a region north-east of Sacramento, California that stretches from the city of Roseville all the way to Lake Tahoe. It is currently the second fastest growing county in the state of California, the fifth largest economy in the world. As a growing county, Placer has a high need for an advanced model of education that serves its diverse people.

A Generous Gift

Eli and EdytheEli Broad was a renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist who founded two Fortune 500 companies. Eli and Edythe Broad represent a legacy of philanthropy rooted in art, science, equity, and education. For more than fifty years, the Broad Foundation has pledged over $4 billion dollars to collective efforts that start, build, and inspire movements that can improve the world.

In addition to the gift of the 300 acres for Sacramento State Placer, some of their investments include:

  • Eli and Edythe Broad endowed Michigan State’s College of Business
  • The Broad Center for the Biological Sciences at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech)
  • The Broad Prize for Urban Education
  • The Broad Museum in Los Angeles
  • The Broad Center at Yale offering tuition-free fellowships for Public Education Leadership and a Master’s degree in Public Education Management

The Communiversity Vision

The Placer Innovation Hub is a 301-acre property in Placer County that will expand Sacramento State’s regional, statewide, and inter/national impact for generations to come. Our goal is to advance a new model of higher education that focuses on 3 key areas:

  1. All-in-One Communiversity: Build a seamless concurrent enrollment system that allows students to take courses at a community college and CSU simultaneously. Develop academic pathways that support students from community college to doctoral degrees.
  2. Develop Interdisciplinary Degree Programs: Work with faculty to design the future of our fields, giving particular attention to paid academic internships and innovative industry partnerships.
  3. Centralize Wellness: A health and healing framework allows us to advance equity, access and belonging as our foundation and destination. This connects to our relationship with the land, Indigenous communities, and our sacred legacy as leaders for justice.
