Communicate with Students

• It is critical that faculty members establish clear expectations about how they will communicate with their students in the syllabus
• As soon as possible, inform your students about any changes in instruction, what those changes may be, and how you plan to manage those changes to optimize their learning path
• Canvas provides several good ways to communicate with students:
  • Announcements are a great way to post information to the entire class
  • Canvas Inbox is a great way to message individual students or groups of students in an e-mail-like format
  • Chat is a tool in Canvas used for real-time text-based communication
• Remind students that they should NOT turn off Notifications in their Canvas for Students (iOS/Android) app
• Ask students to be sure their contact information is up to date in the Emergency Notification System (ENS)
