Welcome To English 190C:

Course Description:

An interactive course centered around cyberpunk writers, e.g. William Gibson, Neil Stephenson, and Sheri S. Tepper, whose vision extends well beyond science fiction. There will be a set of core readings and videos (e.g. Blade Runner, Tron, and excerpts from Star Trek Voyager, Tekwars, and Max Headroom). However, students will be encouraged to experiment with innovative ways of meeting assignment parameters, particularly using the computer. Interested students from all backgrounds and majors are welcome.

Course Prerequisites:

Engl 1A; WPE or consent of instructor.

Course Requirements:

Weekly quizes, two blue book midterms, and a final paper or project. Students will be expected to attend class and complete readings on time.

Course Format:

The class will view related films and have guest lecturers from Physics and Computer Science.
