Following are some suggestions from UCCS and
several students. I will continue to
modify these instructions as I receive more input.
(1) The first required step is you have to
activate your web page by following the steps below. This can be done from an
on-campus computer lab or by using a Telnet program remotely. There is a Telnet
program built into Windows. Make sure you are logged into your SacLink account.
Then click on Start>Run and type “telnet saclink”. Or you can download the CSUS QVT telnet program by going to
http://www.csus.edu/uccs/software/software.htm
The web page can be activated by following
these steps:
* Log on to SacLink account
* Choose option b - modify account settings
* Choose option 4 - activate personal web
page
(2) The next step is to transfer your web
files to your new web directory. To do this, you will need an FTP program, such
as WS_FTP, which can be downloaded from http://www.csus.edu/uccs/software/software.htm
The Initial Directory on the Remote Host
setting in the WS_FTP program should be saclink.csus.edu. The Initial Directory
on the Local PC setting should be the location of your web files on your PC.
The host type can be set to Automatic Detect. The profile name can be anything
you want. Enter your user id, but leave the password blank until you are
prompted for it. “Save” the profile so
this information is available to you next time you use WS_FTP.
When you enable your website through the QVC
terminal, it automatically creates a folder titled "web". Anything you put into this folder will be
saved on the web server. Transfer your
web files by selecting them and clicking on the à (right-arrow) button.
(3) You may also have to reset file
permissions. Right-click on each file
after you transferred it to the web server, left click on chmod(UNIX), then
select read and write for "owner," read for "group," and
read for "other." Usually
these options are already selected, but the SacLink instructions say to check
it anyway.
After transferring your files, your website
should be accessible to all.
