Planetary
Magnetic Fields: Neptune
- Neptune rotates with a period
of about 16 hours
- A magnetic field was detected
by the Voyager spacecraft as it passed by the planet, so again this indicates that
Neptune, too, has a fluid, cnducting core
- Neptune's magnetic field is
about 25 times stronger than Earths
- Like Uranus, Neptune's
magnetic axis is inclined 50o to rotation axis
- Again, like Uranus, the
magnetic axis is offset 10,000km from the planet's core (by 25% of radius)
